AmeriCorps AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in our country in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve with more than 2,000 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations. Since 1994, more than 400,000 men and women have provided needed assistance to millions of Americans across the nation through their AmeriCorps service.
Three, full-time State AmeriCorps Member service positions
are available at the American Red Cross Tulsa Area Chapter. Five
full-time State
AmeriCorps Member service positions are available within our five Tulsa
Area
Chapter Service Centers located in Miami, Muskogee, Claremore, Ponca
City, and Sapulpa/Okmulgee.
Member must be energetic, a self-starter, have good work ethic, enjoy
meeting
people and enjoy teaching. Service term position begins September 1,
2010 and
ends August 31, 2011. Training is provided for all areas of the
AmeriCorps
service term. Member will work at least 40 hours per week. Duties may
include:
develop disaster teams, actively participate in local disaster calls on
an on-call
or scheduled basis, teach health and safety programs at schools (all
grade
levels), represent the American Red Cross at health fairs and other
community-wide
events, teach CPR and First Aid to the lay person, act as a caseworker
for our American
Red Cross military program. Members receive a living stipend of $453.85
every
two weeks, health insurance, child care assistance (if eligible), food
assistance (if needed), and a uniform allowance. Members are required to
complete at least 1700 service hours within the program guidelines. Upon
successful completion of the service term (September 1, 2010 - August
31,
2011) and service hour minimum requirement the member will receive at
$5,350.00
education award. The award may be used to pay off current school loans
that are
in good standing or to pay for future college courses. Any current
school loans
may be deferred during the time of AmeriCorps Service. Applications are
